Effective Monday, October 12, 2015, the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) is pleased to announce the nomination of Dr. Yv Bonnier Viger as Executive Director. Dr. Bonnier Viger's nomination followed a formal and rigorous process as required by Quebec legislation. A Selection Committee consisting of representatives of the CBHSSJB, the Cree Nation Government and the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Quebec recommended the candidature of Dr. Bonnier Viger, and the Board of Directors approved this recommendation.
Dr. Bonnier Viger is a distinguished and widely respected specialist in public health and preventive medicine. He has vast national and international experience as a clinician and manager of health and social services in the Province of Quebec. Dr. Bonnier Viger led the sector of promotion and prevention in Chaudière-Appalaches while holding a professorship in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at Laval University. He was, notably, chairperson of the Association des médecins spécialistes en santé communautaire du Québec and Director of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine of University Laval. He served the communities of Eeyou Istchee as the Director of Public Health between 2002 and 2008.
“Dr. Bonnier Viger is not new to the Cree Health Board or Eeyou Istchee. As Director of Public Health, he brought about an increased sensitivity to Cree realities in our programs and services. His knowledge, leadership skills and his commitment to the organization will be positive assets in meeting the challenges of the CBHSSJB," declared Bella M. Petawabano, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Bonnier Viger's first day of work was Tuesday, October 14, 2015. He will work closely with the outgoing Interim Executive Director, Daniel St-Amour. Mr. St-Amour resumes his responsibilities as Assistant Executive Director of Administrative Services.
