Chisasibi swimming pool now accessible to people with limited mobility and people with special needs

July 18, 2016

The Cree Nation of Chisasibi, in partnership with the Cree Health Board have made Chisasibi's swimming pool accessible to people with limited mobility and or special needs.
The Swimming Pool Center has now proper equipment allowing all community members to access the water safely. The changing rooms are being adapted too with specialized equipment provided by the CBHSSJB.

On Thursday July 21, 2016 Chisasibi officially inaugurated this new equipment. During the event, Virginie Lubino (Occupational Therapist) and Annie Chewanish (Head Guard) showed the guests the new adapted ladder and the special swimming pool lift . Shannon Spencer, who is an MSDC participant, graciously demonstrated how she can now get into the water by transferring from her wheelchair.

Some Chisasibi elders (who can now enjoy accessing the swimming pool safely) joined the inauguration. When asked about why she thought the new equipment was an improvement for many users, Cree elder Clara Jack said the following: "I love to be in the water. When I was little and living on Fort George island, I used to be in the water all the time".

Come for a swim. The friendly staff is awaiting for all of you.
