Tele-Pacemaker Program

What is it?

With the tele-pacemaker program, you can have follow-up meetings to ensure your implanted cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator is working properly.

Who is it for?

The MUHC provides a list of individuals who are eligible for tele-pacemaker monitoring, based on the model of pacemaker. Some models of pacemakers can be monitored remotely, but others cannot.

Where is it offered?

You receive this service at your local CMC.

What is it like?

Pacemaker patients require follow-up approximately every six months. In a tele-pacemaker session, you will go to your local CMC to have pacemaker checked. The data from this checkup is sent to the pacemaker team at the MUHC in Montreal. They will interpret the data and produce a report, which will be sent to your physician.

In-person physical examinations are less frequent; how often you need an in-person examination will be determined by the MUHC pacemaker clinic.

How long will it last?

Most tele-pacemaker sessions last about 10 minutes.

How can I get this service?

If you are eligible for this service, you will receive a call from your CMC’s Specialized Services Officer each time you need an appointment for a check-up.

Where can I learn more?

For more information, reach out to the Specialized Services Officer at your CMC.
