Waskaganish Birthing Home

CBHSSJB Midwifery Services are experts in normal pregnancy, birth, and newborn care. They provide comprehensive, continuous, and culturally safe throughout pregnancy until 6 weeks postpartum, respecting Cree traditions.

The new Waskaganish Birthing Home will open its doors on May 25, 2026. The 710 m² facility features two beautiful birth rooms with the option for a water birth, three consultation offices, and a spacious, light‑filled family gathering area with south‑east facing floor‑to‑ceiling windows.
Traditional Cree colours and patterns inspired the design of the building, creating a space that reflects the culture and the land of our community.

The Birthing home will offer comprehensive perinatal care for women provided by midwives. The Waskaganish Birthing home will serve families living in Waskaganish, Eastmain, and Nemaska.

Chisasibi Birthing Home

The Chisasibi Birthing Home opened its doors on December 1, 2021, located directly across from Chisasibi Hospital. It offers a comfortable space for low-risk births, with family centered care and integration of Cree traditions.

A permanent 640 m² facility is also in architectural planning. The midwifery team celebrated the opening with an open house, serving Chisasibi pole families..

Eligibility & Comprehensive Care

Services are exclusively for low-risk pregnancies with informed choice between midwife or medical team follow-up. Care includes personalized prenatal visits (45+ minutes), birth support with family presence, and postpartum care up to 6 weeks.
