School Nurse Program

Program objectives

To provide accessibility in the school setting of a health professional who performs individual care, public health education, health prevention and promotion programs in order to promote wellness in the school, family and community setting with the goal of encouraging the educational success, well-being and bio-psychological, and spiritual health of the children and youth in Cree schools

Why this program?

The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay has the responsibility of providing leadership in the areas of Health Services in the region including school health programs. 

Short description of program

The main goal of the school nurse program is to provide the schools with technical assistance on a number of topics including, legal issues in school nursing, school health program planning, implementation and evaluation, education programs and related services for children with special health care needs, school health records, immunizations, medication administration and emergency services

Targeted clientele

The program focuses on providing support to the managers and principles of Cree Schools.
