Update on Mistissini Youth Healing Centre investigation: 6 active infections

December 15, 2021

Cree Public Health has confirmed a total of 6 active infections of COVID-19 among people from Mistissini. This includes 1 person linked to the Youth Healing Centre in Mistissini, and 5 more cases in the person’s close contacts, one of whom we reported yesterday, December 14.

The new cases have all been isolating since the start of their infectious period and have no additional contacts.

At this time:

  • Some contacts of the first person have been able to finish their isolation, others will continue for a little while longer
  • Everyone has been tested, some twice. Some are still awaiting test results.
  • No new contacts have been identified.

We are grateful to the individuals affected for their cooperation with Public Health recommendations, including getting tested.

We are especially grateful to the staff and residents at the Youth Healing Centre for their quick and effective response. Thanks to their collaboration with the Public Health investigation, we are confident that the situation at the Youth Health Centre is under control.

As we move into the holiday season, we must remember to not let our guard down.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Quebec and Canada, vaccination is still the strongest layer of protection available, including for children.

Booster vaccines are now available for adults 18 years and older who received their second dose more than 6 months ago.  Contact your CMC to make an appointment.

In addition to being vaccinated, please be cautious around others.

  • Stay home and arrange a test if you are feeling sick

  • Wear a mask when required

  • Practice physical distancing from people who don’t live with you

  • Wash your hands

  • Get tested when needed
