Content

The CBHSSSJB Mobile Hospital is the first of its kind in Northern Québec. Its objective is to be deployed everywhere in Eeyou Istchee, whatever the season or terrain, to promptly provide health and social services, during emergencies, when traditional healthcare facilities may be overwhelmed or inaccessible.

To achieve this objective, all parties acknowledge that key components such as emergency preparedness and resource readiness are valuable investments whenever opportunities for collaboration arise. This understanding is the driving force behind the organization of this fourth workshop.

After a kickoff gathering to present the vision of the project, other previous iterations of this workshop included defining the main lines for the implementation, strategizing on the deployment operations, identifying equipment and deployment procedures, and testing, in practice, defined deployment operations and coordination.

The areas of focus of this fourth workshop were:

·       establishing standard operating procedures;

·       putting into practice the tools that have been created to date;

·       reviewing the deployment sequence and operations;

·       evaluating preparedness with a tabletop exercise.

WORKING GROUPS

In addition to a coordination team responsible for the overall progress of the Mobile Hospital project, four working groups have been set up to simultaneously carry this new initiative in a safe and successful direction.

Clinical and Public Health

The Clinical and Public Health working group has been established to oversee the conceptualization and operationalization of all clinical components of the Nonsurgical Mobile Hospital Unit (MHU), and to provide inputs concerning the main objectives of the project.

Logistic, Warehouse, Transport and Maintenance

The Logistics working group is responsible for developing plans for the procurement, warehousing,

storage, maintenance and transportation of the mobile hospital equipment, as well as the coordination

of the supply chain and site selection.

Operation and Coordination

The Operations and Coordination working group oversees the activation and management of the MHU in

terms of operations, and the overall functioning of the MHU in terms of feasibility and suitability to

Northern conditions and sustainability.

Workforce, Readiness and Training

The Workforce Readiness and Training working group has been established to oversee the staffing of the mobile hospital. This includes workforce planning, recruitment, MHU capacity building, retention and development.

The CBHSSJB is proud to be tailoring the Mobile Hospital Unit to bring essential healthcare to remote communities in Northern Canada.
