Dr. Maggie Odell - Clinical Staff Representative

Dr. Maggie Odell was elected as the Clinical Staff Representative to the Board of Directors of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) for a three-year term. Dr. Odell has over 30 years of experience working in Eeyou Istchee. 

As a supporter to the new model of care that is under development; she is committed to helping remove barriers to its implementation and she is eager to bring insights from clinical medicine on where the biggest returns on investment can be found, when it comes to healthcare. She is committed to improve access to mental health and primary care services. Her work as a medical advisor in public health has broadened her perspective to include the health of the population as a whole. 8 years ago, she joined the Public Health Dept as medical advisor in chronic diseases, and increased her presence in Chisasibi, where she works half time in the CMC and hospital.

Liz Hester - Non-Clinical Staff Representative

Elizabeth Hester "Liz" has been elected to a three-year term as the non-clinical staff representative on the CBHSSJB Board of Directors.

Elizabeth brings in over 35 years' experience in social work profession. She has over eight years' experience at the CBHSSJB at the local CMC level. She successfully built a framework for the School Social Work programme, coordinated a regional land-based Indian Residential School gathering, and filled in as Awash/Uschiniichisuu Coordinator.

Her experience also includes over 7 years experience at the CBHSSJB in various capacities such as a Program Planning Research Officer (PPRO) at regional departments including Nishiiyuu Miyupimaatisiiun, Strategy & Organizational Development, Maanuuhiikuu, and upcoming Human Resources Development under the Nitutaamh Training Program. She led many successful files such as the Traditional Healing Framework, the Health Assembly and the Strategic Regional Plan 2023-2030. She is an active member of "Employee Wellness Working Group".
