One of our clients, a patient in Montreal for medical treatment, has tested positive for COVID-19. The result of the test was received earlier today. Contrary to earlier reports, the patient began having symptoms on March 23 and was tested immediately. The patient has not recently been in the Eeyou Istchee territory.
The patient is staying at the CBHSSJB Wiichihiituwin patient lodging at Espresso Hotel. The person is under isolation in their room and is receiving medical care, and will be safely transferred to another facility as soon as possible.
Public Health doctors working for the CBHSSJB are tracing contacts of the affected person, including everyone that may have had significant contact with the person as of March 22, 2020.
As a preventive measure, the CBHSSJB had limited the number of guests at Espresso Hotel to patients only with visiting being extremely restricted since last Thursday, March 19, 2020. These measures continue to be in place on the premises until further notice.
Additional preventative measures are in place at Espresso Hotel as of today, March 24:
- All patients are self-isolating in their rooms and meals will be delivered to the rooms.
- All common areas are closed, including the community kitchen and spiritual room.
- Guards are monitoring exits to ensure that people exit the hotel only one at a time and that social distance is respected (for example for smoke breaks).
The CBHSSJB is working with our partners to ensure that all preventative measures are in place in the Espresso environment and along transport corridors, and that our clients at Espresso are being kept informed and cared for.
