Chisasibi Run: Bringing the Community Together Through Movement

Content

The Cree Nation of Chisasibi and some Cree Board of Health employees collaborated closely to make this year’s edition possible, with support from volunteers. Created in an effort to encourage healthy habits, the event is open to everyone, who can walk or run at the pace they choose.

Movement, spending time with others and being in nature are all great for physical and mental health. Many community members and families came out to complete one of the different distances and to get to know each other.

The event’s co-organizers noted how helpful volunteers and participants were in making sure the event went smoothly. One of the event’s co-founders, Roy Neacappo, was the MC for the event. He reflected on the goal of Chisasibi Run: “The purpose of it was trying to get the community to start participating in moving (…) and to plant a seed in their head to try and be more health-conscious. We didn’t want to make it into a competition.
