CHARLENE WEAPENICAPPO CONTINUES TO MAKE HER DAUGHTER AND COMMUNITY PROUD AS A DENTAL HYGIENIST
Charlene Weapenicappo is the first to complete the Dental Assistant Training and go on to graduate as a Dental Hygienist. She is back in Eastmain to provide her dental services, to the rejoice of her proud daughter and thankful community.
When taking the Dental Assistant Training offered by the CBHSSJB in 2019, Charlene discovered a passion for oral health and how it connects to systemic health.
She decided to pursue her education in this field as her training also opened her eyes to the profound need for more dental professionals in the communities.
During both programs, she combined learning with raising her young daughter, who is now eight. Her daughter is now motivated to pursue education and dreams of becoming a dentist.
In her work, she has noticed that some patients feel shy with the quality of their oral health. She is determined to have them leave more confident with instructions to lead them to a healthy and happy smile.
When asked why she decided to return to Eastmain for her practice, Charlene said: “I felt it was my time to give back to my community after all the support and encouragements I was given throughout the years”.
Her ambition is to continue expanding her knowledge and acquiring management expertise to one day lead other Dental Hygienists in communities across Eeyou Istchee. She could even see herself going back to school and becoming a dentist.
