It takes a long time to become a licensed physician and requires a lot of commitment and empathy to serve those who need medical examination or even emergency attention.

A physician’s daily routine usually includes checkups that require getting a quick understanding of the client’s medical condition by asking questions or conducting a physical examination. Sometimes, they deal with more severe cases that require the expertise of other members of the medical team to determine appropriate interventions.

Dr Francois Charette

“On this National Physicians' Day, we celebrate the dedication and commitment of our medical team. I am grateful for the doctors who come north to offer their medical expertise to the Cree people. I am proud to work with this group of women and men who give their time and energy to health care in Eeyou Istchee, and I recognize the passion with which they continually strive to improve the delivery of the best care possible. They deserve our recognition and our thanks.“ – Dr. Francois Charette - Director of Medical Affairs and Services (DMAS)

Did you know?

Typically, physicians work with other health care professionals in a team setting. They work directly with nurses, who often do pre-triage; medical laboratory technologists that help with the analysis of blood and urine samples, for example; or radio imaging technologists that help to make internal injuries visible. Thanks to this kind of teamwork, physicians are able to make a diagnosis and develop a plan that will help a client manage their health.
