First group successfully completes the first module of the training program for Dental Assistants

March 02, 2017

The Dentistry Department of the Cree Health Board is happy to share that a first group of approximately 12 students in Mistissini have successfully completed the first module of the training program for Dental Assistants. This training initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Cree Human Resources Development (CHRD), the CBHSSJB and the Lester B. Pearson School Board.

The training program is composed of five modules (each module ranging from 30 hours to 175 hours). These classes will be given in the nine communities of Eeyou Istchee.

All training modules are accredited by the Ministry of Education of Quebec and students who successfully complete this training will receive a recognition of acquired competencies for each completed module from the Ministry. Our organization is proud of the completion of this first step. It took lots of dedicated work to establish this program that allows our employees to sharpen their skills while staying in Eeyou Istchee for the whole duration of their training.

The CBHSSJB is the only dental establishment committed to having trained Dental Assistants and providing accredited training modules to its staff. The recognition of acquired competencies from the Ministry of Education of Quebec means that the students who complete these modules will have a significant advantage over other applicants if they ever need to leave the community and find work in a dental clinic elsewhere in Quebec.
