October 8, 2014 was a milestone for the Cree Nation of Mistissini.
The first dialysis treatments were offered in the community.
Once the dialysis clinic is fully operational, it will accept 12 clients daily.
Currently, 20 patients from Mistissini must travel to Chibougamau, 1 hour away, 3 times a week for dialysis. Another 16 patients receive dialysis in Montreal, 9 hours away by car. This is a great burden on the patients and their families and a strain on the health services.
