Nemaska, Québec, September 20, 2017 – The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) is pleased to announce the nomination of Daniel St-Amour to the position of Executive Director. Daniel St-Amour is a dynamic leader with more than thirty years’ experience in health care administration.
A Selection Committee consisting of representatives of the CBHSSJB, the Cree Nation Government and the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Quebec recommended the candidature of Daniel St-Amour, and the Board of Directors approved this recommendation on September 19, 2017.
Mr. St-Amour has been a senior manager at the Cree Health Board since 2009, and occupied the position of Executive Director on an interim basis between March and October, 2015 and from January 2016 to the present.
The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay operates in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Quebec to deliver health and social services in the self-governing Cree territory of Eeyou Istchee, in the James Bay region of northern Quebec. The organization has an annual budget of over $230 million, employs 2,700 people (full-time and part-time), and serves a population of over 18,000 people in nine communities across a vast territory.
Bella M. Petawabano, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, expressed confidence on behalf of the Board of Directors in the leadership of Daniel St-Amour. “Daniel is not Cree, but he has demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of our People. His leadership style is a great fit for our organization, which is Indigenous-led but also very diverse.”
The Chairperson also stressed that “it is vital that the Executive Director has the qualifications and experience to oversee major capital projects.” There are a number of construction projects underway and in the planning phase in the Cree Health Board, including 232 new employee housing units and a new state of the art regional hospital centre in Chisasibi, projected to be completed by 2025.
St-Amour had more than twenty years’ experience as a senior Federal public sector manager when he first arrived in Chisasibi as hospital director in 2009. He was Canadian Forces Field Hospital Commanding Officer during the military deployment in Bosnia and Rwanda from 1995-1998. Among the major projects he has managed is the reform of health services for the Department of National Defence in 2000.
Daniel St-Amour holds an applied MBA/Masters in Health Services Administration specializing in international relations, international and national security and front-line public administration.
