The annual training of CBHSSJB nurses working in the nine communities of Eeyou Istchee ended last Friday November 25th, 2016. The week-long training, delivered to two separate groups over a two week period, gives nurses a chance to strengthen their teams, renew their certifications in emergency and trauma care, and improve their knowledge and skills in key areas. This year, the emphasis was on collective prescriptions in cardiology, neurology, gastro-intestinal and dermatology. A section on "diapression" explored the links between diabetes and depression. Workshops on cultural safety/protective defiance and toxicology/mental health reflected the priorities identified by Eeyou and Eenou community leaders at last April's Regional Health Assembly in Waskaganish.
