About: Awash Programs

Awash Programs are for children between the ages of zero and nine and their families.

Awash aims to make sure that babies are born healthy and then grow up and remain healthy throughout their first years of life.  The Amaskuupimatiseat Awash services are currently being put into place in Mistissini and will gradually spread to the other communities according to how ready they are to receive the services.

The Awash Midwifery program is especially important, as we want to be able to bring birth back to the communities and to offer consistent, ongoing local support to pregnant mothers and their babies. Awash also runs programs concerned with areas that help babies grow up and remain healthy. These programs aim to

  • maintain adequate vaccination coverage,
  • prevent and control infectious diseases, and
  • ensure dental health.
