Breastfeeding Needs Assessment Survey

Breastfeeding Needs Assessment Survey Banner

The CBHSSJB needs your help! The Cree Health Board wants to know more about breastfeeding in Eeyou Istchee.

Even if you did not breastfeed your baby, if you gave birth between January 1, 2017 and January 31, 2018, we invite you to tell us about your experience.

We have prepared a survey called the Breastfeeding Needs Assessment to help us learn more about breastfeeding in our Nation. It takes about 30 minutes to fill out. All participants will be given a T-shirt, and will be entered in a draw to win a $150 grocery gift card per community.

Why is there a survey on breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is important for the health and well-being of families. Some mothers breastfeed their babies, and others do not. Some mothers stop after a short while. We need to know why.

If you help us to understand the choices mothers make about breastfeeding in our <region, we will be able to offer better services to our people.

When is the survey?

The survey is starting in all nine Cree communities on August 20, and will last until September 14, 2018.

Who should take the survey?

All mothers who have given birth between January 1, 2017 and January 31st, 2018 are invited to take the survey.

Mothers who breastfed their babies and mothers who did not breastfeed their babies are both welcome.

In all 9 communities, 6 to 8 mothers are invited for a focus group. Each community will be hosting a focus group with one of these four categories:

  1. Mothers who were under age 18 when they first gave birth
  2. Mothers who were over 18 when they first gave birth
  3. Elderly mothers
  4. Young mothers with their own mothers

What kind of questions are in the survey?

The survey asks questions about mothers' breastfeeding experience, why some mothers breastfeed while others don't, what made it easier for some and harder for others.

Are the survey answers private?

Yes. Results are confidential and anonymous, so no one will be able to identify any participants. The only information that will be made public are the overall results. Your privacy is 100% protected.
